چکیده

The enormous increase in the commercial demand for the rubber and the probability of the continuance of this increase in view of the great variety of purposes to which the material can be applied, demands a thorough understanding of its structure, composition and physical/mechanical properties. Hydrogenated Nitrile Butadiene rubber (HNBR) and Chlorosulphonated monomer (CSM) were investigated in the uncured and the cured form for systematic characterization by employing important experimental techniques. The effect of reinforcement and vulcanization on the properties of these rubber materials were comparatively studied with that of the uncured ones. The complete vibrational band assignment was made available for the rubber materials from FTIR spectra. The dielectric measurements were carried out for the cured and uncured rubber materials in the microwave frequency region by utilizing X-band and K-band microwave test benches. Further, thermal behavior of the rubber materials was studied from Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA). The thermal stability was studied from TGA curves and the activation energy for the degradation of rubber materials was calculated using Murray-White and Coats-Redfern plot. Further, the hardness of rubber materials in the raw and cured state were determined using Shore A durometer.

The Rheological Behavior of Wheat Starch Particulates Filled Uncured Styrene-Butadiene Rubber

This study treats one important aspect of starch-filled rubber compounds which is their rheological behavior. Starch-based SBR1712 masterbatches resulting from various formulations were prepared using a mini two roll mill and an internal mixer (Plastograph Brabender). The content in starch was varied from 0 to 50 phr. The effect of starch content on the rheological behavior was ev...

Effect of carbon black and fly ash co-fillers content on mechanical and thermal behaviors of styrene butadiene rubber compounds

Fly ash (FA) is produced as a waste byproduct during the burning process of coal in thermal power plants whose cost is primarily associated to cleaning and transportation. It possesses mechanical properties on account of its constituents like silica and alumina. The use of FA as filler in styrene butadiene rubber (SBR) was of researchers’ interest to reinforce and/or to reduce product cost. In ...

Prediction of the lifetime of nitrile-butadiene rubber by FT-IR.

A quantitative measurement method with FT-IR was proposed for a thermal degradation analysis of nitrile-butadiene rubber (NBR). An NBR film was prepared as a model sample on a barium fluoride (BaF2) crystal plate, which was subjected to a heat treatment. The absorbances of various functional groups were measured directly by FT-IR after thermal degradation at high temperatures. By measuring the ...

Emulsion Copolymerization of Acrylonitrile and Butadiene in an Industrial Reactor. Mathematical Modeling, Estimation, and Control of Polymer Quality Variables on the Basis of Calorimetric Measurements

−− An industrial emulsion copolymerization of acrylonitrile and butadiene carried out in a batch (or semibatch) reactor for the production of nitrile rubber (NBR) is investigated. The effect of variable amounts of deactivating impurities on the predictions of a global polymerization model is analyzed; and the advantages of using the model predictions in combination with on-line calorimetric mea...
